How a refill works
You choose your cylinder size — the common domestic sizes are 3kg, 6kg, 12.5kg and 50kg, and which of these a market carries depends on what its suppliers actually stock. You say where you are. The app quotes the gas and the delivery fee together, before you commit to anything.
A vendor near you accepts it, and a rider brings the full cylinder and leaves with your empty one. This is an exchange, not a purchase: you are not buying a new cylinder every time, which is why there is no deposit to find and nothing to store.
Why the price is fixed before the rider leaves
The quote you accept is the amount charged. Delivery is priced in distance bands rather than a per-kilometre rate, so a hundred metres of GPS drift cannot change what you pay between agreeing to a price and placing the order.
Every market sets its own bands, in its own currency, because what a delivery costs in Kampala and what it costs in Lagos are not the same number and pretending otherwise makes the platform useless in four countries to be convenient in one.
The safety part, which is not a formality
Every cylinder is checked at the vendor before it goes out: valve condition, seal, and that the cylinder itself is not damaged, corroded or past the point where it should be recertified.
A rider carries gas and connects the cylinder. A rider is not a gas fitter and will not alter your pipework, move a fixed installation, or work on an appliance. That work belongs to a qualified fitter, and saying so plainly is more useful than a promise nobody should make.
Questions about cooking gas refill
Do I need to pay a deposit for the cylinder?
No. A refill is an exchange — the rider brings a full cylinder and takes your empty one away in the same trip, so there is no deposit to find and no second cylinder to store.
What cylinder sizes can I order?
The common domestic sizes are 3kg, 6kg, 12.5kg and 50kg. Which sizes are available depends on the market you are in and what its vendors stock, and the app only shows you sizes you can actually order.
How much does delivery cost?
Delivery is charged in distance bands set per market, and the exact fee is shown with your quote before you place the order. It is never added afterwards.
Can I pay on delivery?
Payment is taken in the app before the rider sets off — by card, bank transfer, or from your Patride wallet. This is what lets you watch the order on the map and keeps a receipt for every trip.
What happens if my cylinder is damaged or expired?
The vendor checks the cylinder before it is sent out. If a cylinder cannot be safely refilled or exchanged, the order is not completed and you are not charged for gas you did not receive.
Will the rider connect the cylinder for me?
A rider will place and connect a standard domestic cylinder. They will not alter pipework, move a fixed installation or repair an appliance — that is a qualified gas fitter’s job, not a delivery rider’s.
